Campden Wealth are proud to present the 12th Middle East Family Enterprise & Investment Conference – to be held on 9-10 December 2019 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR MIDDLE EAST HONORARY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Campden Wealth are eternally grateful for the exemplary guidance and thought leadership provided by members of our honorary committee.
Taking a holistic view on the two overarching themes below, the 2019 edition provides a discreet environment for multigenerational family enterprises to engage in meaningful ways with each other on the most pertinent topics impacting the family, business and wealth.
*Formerly titled the “Middle East Family Office & Investment Conference”, this new title represents shifting dynamics and the favoured model in the region which mostly leans toward the use of a holding company structure linked to an investment arm, often with a strong connection to the operational business.
FOCUS 1: PROTECTING FAMILY WEALTH
The spread of private wealth across the Middle East region underpins growth across the major Gulf States, with Saudi Arabia taking the top spot, closely followed by the United Arab Emirates and a hub of private sector growth across Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordon to mention but a few.
However, more than half of the region’s families are in the midst of a transition from the second to third generation, with a major risk of fragmentation and division within prominent family businesses. The combination of growth strategies and growing families is a precious balancing act. Preparation, succession planning and professionalization remain key areas of focus to ensure family harmony and the preservation of wealth.
Against this backdrop, how will the ‘rules of the game’ be communicated between generations and governance adapted to meet changing family needs?
Moreover, what are the structural solutions for separating different branches of the family, developing a family holding and creating a family office to protect wealth and legacy?
FOCUS 2: ACHIEVING FUTURE GROWTH
From an investment perspective, economic diversification put in play by Vision 2030 has transformed the landscape regionally – with an increasing enthusiasm in areas such as healthcare and education, not to mention the vanguard of the fourth industrial revolution taking centre-stage.
On the burgeoning start-up space, the number of funding deals in the MENA region during the first half of this year reached the highest number on record for a first half of a year.
Should families focus on their core competencies or pivot into new and diversified opportunities – and if so, how can they manage risk?
Furthermore, as a consequence of volatile oil revenues, regulatory changes such as VAT and political uncertainty, Middle Eastern families are beginning to be more active on the global stage too – both in the West and further East.
Put in context, how is a shifting regional and global ecosystem impacting asset allocation and opportunities for growing wealth?
FROM THE GULF TO THE GLOBE
For those who qualify, the forum will act as a bridge between Middle Eastern families and their Asian, North American and European counterparts to start the journey of discovery, provide insight into changing markets, and a platform to nurture new opportunities for current and future generations.
